Recreation is a highlight of living near Lake Sinclair, and the opportunities are practically endless. Residents enjoy fishing, camping, boating, hiking, swimming, golfing, jet skiing, and so much more. There are places to rent paddle boats and jet skis, and those who are interested in fishing will find no shortage of fish species, including: Catfish, Crappie, Largemouth Bass, and Striped Bass. Fishing tournaments are often held. For overnight camping, be sure to check out Little River Park Campground, which is right along the lake. As far as shopping and dining go, there are plenty of local places to drop by and most needs can be met without having to drive a far distance. In addition, for those seeking higher education there are Georgia College & State University, and Georgia Military College, both located in Milledgeville.

History

The Georgia Power Company completed the Sinclair Dam in February of 1953, and was named after superintendent Benjamin W. Sinclair, who took part in the project. The dam is 2,988 feet long and 104 feet tall. Not only does the lake provide tons of recreational fun, it also provides electricity through a 45,000 kilowatt hydroelectric generating station.
